Insurance companies are the companies which are providing insurance. However as
there are several types of insurance, a single company can not be indulged in
these several types of insurance.
Some insurance companies are involved in Health in majority so some are involved
in Vehicle (Auto). Some are involved in Life Insurance so some are involved in
disaster insurance. Some insurance companies provide all types of insurance but
they doesn’t provide liability insurance. Similarly some companies are involved
only in third party insurance and some only in first party insurance.
In these cases this is very difficult to get the list of insurance companies which
we want or a person want that is going to be insured.
Basically the insurance companies are divided in two of types by the insurance
masters. They are as
1. Life insurance companies, which are involved in life related products such
as life insurance, pension and annuities.
2. Non Life General Insurance, which are involved with life for example general
insurance, property or causality insurance.
The Non Life insurance companies are further classified as
1. Standard Line
2. Excess Lines
The main difference between the Life and Non Life insurance is directly related
to there time period. The Life insurance companies provides long term insurance
products as they are related to life , where as Non Life General insurance are
short period insurance in comparison to Life insurance.
Further more the insurance companies are divided as Mutual insurance companies
and Stock Companies. Mutual Companies are owned by the policy holders, where
as the Stock holders are owned by the Stock insurance companies. Basically the
demutualization of Mutual Companies makes Stock companies and formation of hybrid
makes the Mutual companies.
